Le Kirin Noir aux Sabots d'Or Rose

Here is my entry for 's OCs contest. (info can be found here : [link] )

I wanted so badly to participate to a contest and I found this one out. The theme really suited
what I wanted to draw at the moment. This drawing took me 3 days (and nights ! XD).
I hope it's worth the result !

"The Black Kirin with Pink Gold Hooves"

So ! I had to pick an OC of hers and choose this OC a japanese folklore animal that would fit
the character the best.
Among the available characters I chose Sakairi Kohaku. She seemed to me the most worthy of
a true geisha, both physically and in regards to her past. I immediately fell for her.
I wanted to pay homage to her by deifying her in this drawing. The kirin then came to my mind.
It’s a mighty animal which announces peace. He’s sweet and calm aswell, just like Kohaku.

Then I had to chose the colour of the Kirin. I first wanted to respect the name of the character
(“red and white”), but I eventually decided to stick to the colours of the clothes (black and pink).
This is how “The Black Kirin with Pink Gold Hooves” appeared.

Pink gold is a fine metal obtained by melting gold and copper. This precious metal well symbolized
the past of the character. Carved in gold, but soiled by blood (copper) because she bears the
guilt of her master’s murder.

I wished to give her an expression of melancholia, because of her past, but also of grace and
gentleness. I based on japanese engraving for the features of her face.

Le Kirin Noir aux Sabots d'Or Rose

J'ai donc choisis parmi les personnages proposé Sakaïri Kohaku. Elle me semblais être la plus
digne d'une véritable geisha tant physiquement que vis à vis de son passé. Je suis tout de
suite tombée sous son charme.
Je voulais lui rendre hommage en la divinisant dans cette illustration. Le kirin est l'animal qui
m'est alors venu en tête. C'est un animal annonciateur de paix et aux grands pouvoirs. Il est
également très doux et posé comme l'est Kohaku.

J'ai ensuite eu à choisir la couleur du Kirin, j'ai d'abord voulu respecté le nom du personnage
("rouge et blanc") mais j'ai finalement decidé de m'en tenir aux couleurs de ses vêtements
(noir et rose). C'est ainsi que "Le Kirin Noir aux Sabots d'Or Rose" est apparut.

L'or rose est un métal fin né de l'alliage de l'or et du cuivre. Ce métal précieux symbolisait bien
le passé du personnage. Taillée dans l'or, mais souillée par le sang (le cuivre) car elle s'est rendu
coupable de l'assassinat son maître.

La mélancolie a été l'expression que j'ai souhaité lui donner, aux vues de son passé, mais
également la douceur et la grâce. Je me suis directement inspirée d'estampes japonaises pour les
traits de son visage.

Alors voilà ! ^^ J'ai été bien passionée par cette aventure
